Autumn rollout of EHR at Lakeshore General Hospital, Quebec

Across autumn Montreal West Island CIUSSS is set to roll out its OACIS EHR at the Lakeshore General Hospital site, with the aim of enhancing the standardisation of information tools across the CIUSSS’ facilities; enabling access to up-to-date patient records; and preparing for the wider rollout of electronic medical records across Québec’s healthcare network.

The EHR has already been in use at the St Mary’s Hospital Centre and Hôpital de LaSalle for several years, with patient records from Lakeshore General Hospital soon to be added.

It is hoped that the new system will “simplify and improve the professional lives of clinicians”, as well as enhancing quality of care and allowing information to be accessed “more quickly and more efficiently”.

Some of the functionality offered by the new EHR includes a centralised repository pulling data from systems including lab and imaging results, single sign-on, and generated reports including scanned documents and customisable trend graphs.

OACIS will be available on iPads and iPhones, and clinicians will be able to have visibility of results including lab, microbiology, and pathology, from other sites in the CIUSSS. Patient medication profiles will also be accessible through the new EHR.

Training will be offered to clinicians to prepare them to use the new system, and a network of super users is being introduced to support the rollout.
