Bon Secours Health Systems invests €25 million for electronic healthcare record system

Bon Secours Health System (BSHS) has partnered with MEDITECH on the launch of a clinical transformation project, Bons Connect, which will see the system’s entire hospital network connected using one electronic healthcare record.

Described as “the largest private hospital EPR system in Ireland”, BonsConnect will form part of Bon Secours’ wider €300 million national commitment into new equipment and technology as part of its 2025 strategic plan. The project is estimated to create 30 news jobs in BSHS now with a further 30 positions to be created by September, with an expected completion date of summer 2025.

Helen Waters, executive vice president and chief operation officer at MEDITECH, said of the project: “Our new partnership provides an extraordinary opportunity to work together and use the latest technology to drive patient-centred care, improve patient access, and enhance the clinician experience while ensuring equitable access to quality care across the communities they serve.”

Last month, we covered Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust’s go-live of their new electronic patient record system with MEDITECH Expanse EPR – 27 years on since the trust first went live with MEDITECH Magic.

Looking at a global perspective of EHR, the Catalan Health Service recently partnered with a consortium led by T-Systems and Better, to introduce Better Meds, an electronic prescribing and medication administration system. The programme aims to provide a patient and data-centric EHR and to establish a “vendor-neutral health and data platform and medication management system.”

In March 2022, we examined the Irish private hospital, Mater Private Network’s deal with MEDITECH to implement its electronic health record across their system. The system was introduced to replace paper-based processes and consolidate services across its various specialties and locations, the company explained.
