Novari Health has announced the implementation of a regional diagnostic imaging central intake system in Northwestern Ontario, with the hopes of “helping to improve access to care for diagnostic imaging services in the region”.
Working with hospitals including Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), the implementation will offer participating health services a central intake function, along with referral management, waitlist management, AI functions and analytics.
Clinicians and hospital administrators could benefit from real-time referrals data, and radiologists will have access to a medical imaging solution offering “all relevant information needed” to process requisitions, potentially speeding up the process.
Integration with hospital EHR and PACS systems will mean radiologists can upload requisition documents, which can then be easily accessed by medical imaging technologists and clinicians.
Dr Rhonda Crocker Ellacott, president and CEO at TBRHSC, referred to the implementation of the central intake function as an “incredible milestone” for the region’s healthcare, adding that this step is leading the region “closer to our vision of exceptional care for every patient, every time”, as well as improving access to care for residents.
In other news from Canada, the Department of Health in New Brunswick has launched patient summary functionalities through the province’s health information app, MyHealthNB, in order to support residents to travel across regional and international borders with a “shareable, digital set of basic clinical data”.
And in related news on medical imaging, the US’s FDA has approved an AI cardiac solution to help support clinicians in identifying patients at high risk of coronary artery disease, utilising medical imaging data to measure coronary artery calcium (CAC) as a predictor for future cardiovascular events, and potentially helping to offer more patients improved preventative care.
