Lagos Ministry of Health shares insight into Lagos SHIP (State Health Information Platform)

Lagos Ministry of Health has shared insight into Lagos SHIP (State Health Information Platform) following recent signing agreements around its launch.

Lagos SHIP is described as a “digital healthcare platform designed to boost healthcare services” through the leveraging of Interswitch’s technology infrastructure, creating a “comprehensive” health information system capable of bridging the gap between patients and providers. It will offer functionalities such as a patient demography service capable of identifying and indexing every patient upon presentation at health facilities, to support tracking of patients as they move across providers, and a summary care records API to facilitate exchange of clinical data.

From the patient side, Lagos residents will be able to access their medical records, book appointments, pay for consultations, and purchase medications.

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has delivered a keynote in which he stated that Lagos SHIP “allows us to imagine together into the future” and highlighted areas set to be explored including “data mining and trend analysis for policy and research, early warning systems and emergency management, training, virtual clinics, robotics and AI solutions, global hub of virtual connectivity, international collaborations, multiple opportunities for digital innovative solutions, cost efficiencies, regulation and clinical governance”.

An engagement group has been formed by Lagos State Government and Interswitch Group which aims to help onboard stakeholders in the health sector to the platform and raise awareness of benefits.
